【摘要】:Thewidespreaduseofglassed-steelequipmentinhighlycorrosivechemicalprocesseshasmadeitnecessarytodetectweakspotsinthecoatingandrepairthembeforecatastrophicfailureoccursinservice.Thistestisintendedtodetectdiscontinuitiesandthinareasinaglasscoatingonmetaltoensurethatthecoatingisdefectfreeandhassufficientthicknesstowithstandtheprescribedserviceconditions.Atestvoltagemaybeselectedatanydesiredvalueupto20000V,thusmakingthetestapplicabletoawiderangeofthicknessrequirements.When,becauseofbubblesordefects,thethicknessofglassatanyspotislessthanenoughtowithstandtheappliedvoltage,apunctureresultswithanaccompanyingindicationofadefect.Remedialactionisthenrequiredtorepairthedefectbeforetheequipmentcanbeusedforcorrosiveservice.(Whensuchdefectsarefoundbeforetheequipmentleavesthemanufacturer’plantanotherapplicationofglasscanusuallybeappliedandfiredtobecomeanintegralpartofthecoating.)1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthereliabilityofglasscoatingonmetalandisintendedforusebymanufacturersofequipmentthatisdesignedtowithstandhighlycorrosiveconditionswhereafailureofthecoatinginservicewouldcauseextremedamagetotheexposedmetal.Itsuseoutsidethemanufacturer'splantisdiscouragedbecauseimproperorindiscriminatetestingcancausepuncturesthataredifficulttorepairwithoutreturningtheequipmenttothemanufacturer'splant.Thistestmethoddetectsnotonlyexistingdiscontinuitiesintheglasscoating,butalsoareaswheretheglassmaybethinenoughtobelikelytoresultinprematurefailureinservice.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Forspecificprecautionarystatements,seeSection.
