【摘要】:Earliermethodsforcharacterizingturpentineandrelatedterpeneproductswerebasedonphysicalproperties,suchasthoseinSpecificationD13andTestMethodsD801andD802,andpackedcolumngaschromatographyforthemajorconstituents(forexample,x03B1;-pinene,x03B2;-pinene)asinTestMethodD3009.Asterpeneproductsbecamewidelyusedaschemicalrawmaterial,theseparationandquantitationofcompoundspresentatlowerconcentrationsintheproductbecamemoreimportant.Thecapillarygaschromatographictechniquedescribedinthesetestmethodsisarapidandconvenientmeanstoperformtheseanalyses.1.1Thesetestmethodsdescribethedeterminationoftheamountsofalpha-pinene,945;-pinene,dipentene,terpenealcohols,andotherterpenecompoundsinturpentineandrelatedterpeneproductsusingcapillarygaschromatography.Thetwomethodsfordeterminingtheamountoftheindividualterpenecompoundsarethe"internalstandard"method,whichyieldsabsolutevalues,andthe"areapercent"method,whichyieldsrelativevalues.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthestandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Note18212;Overallthistestmethodgivesexcellentrepeatabilitybutonlymoderatereproducibility.Thisgreaterthannormaldifferentialisaconsequenceofthevarietyofgaschromatography(GC)columnsandothervariablesusedbyparticipants.Thesevariables,coupledwiththecomplexcompositionofthetestproducts,enabledsomeworkerstoseparatepeaksthatothersreportedasonepeak;thus,thistestmethodgivesexcellentprecisionwithinagivenlaboratoryonagivenGC.Whenlaboratorytolaboratorycomparisonhavetobemade,however,itisessentialthattheGCoperatingconditionsbedefinedclosely.SubcommitteeD01.34willbeworkingonthisproblempriortothenextversionofthistestmethod.
